The Habitat of Sariska Tiger Reserve & Things to do

Sariska Tiger Reserve and National Park are situated in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. The area covered by this national park is divided into grasslands, dry deciduous forests, sheer cliffs, and rocky landscapes. Home to several wildlife species, this reserve is nestled in the lap of Aravali Hills.

The scenic beauty of this place is not all that attracts the tourists, but with that, the wide population and diversity of flora and fauna force people to visit this beautiful reserve. The place was declared a sanctuary in 1955 and later a National Park in 1979. 

A perfect spot for wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts, Sariska Tiger Reserve is a treat for the soul. The best time to visit this place is between October and June. The pleasant weather and scenic beauty along with the wildlife population will surely catch your attention. 

 

Flora and Fauna

Nearly 90% of the area of this park is covered with Dhok trees. Sharp cliffs and long narrow valleys are how the geography of the place can be described. 

The sanctuary is famous for its tiger population. Other animals that can be seen here are leopard, Hyena, Caracal, Jungle cat, Ratel, Nilgai, Sambar deer, Spotted deer, langur, Rhesus macaque, Four-horned antelope, Wild pig, Indian civet, Rufous-tailed hare, Common Mongoose, Ruddy Mongoose, Palm Civet, Pangolin, Porcupine, etc.

Along with animals, a variety of birds can be spotted in the park. Around 211 different species of birds have been spotted in the reserve. Some of the species of these birds are peafowl, grey francolin, white-rumped vulture, painted spurfowl, Aravalli red spurfowl, Indian Cuckoo, common sand grouse, Indian pitta, great horned owl, etc. The sanctuary inhabits more than 70 migratory birds.

Neelkanth Temple: Built in the 6th century, this temple is famous for its erotic statues. It is located in an isolated mountain in the Sariska reserve. Being a very popular tourist attraction, one must visit this temple. 

Pandupol Hanuman Temple: Being related to the epic Mahabharata, this temple is visited by many people. Offering a spectacular view of the waterfall, this temple provides a feeling of recreation. Pilgrimage activities are also performed here.

Sariska Tiger Reserve and National Park are known for their diverse wildlife population, but along with that, it is also a great place for tourists as the area is full of architectural wonders and can catch anyone\’s attention.
